Hydrogen Valley
Uznam-Wolińska Hydrogen Valley
The idea of action
Hydrogen Valley is a specific geographical area where the hydrogen produced is used in more than one end sector, e.g. mobility, industry and energy. It usually involves a multi-million investment, which includes all necessary stages of the hydrogen value chain, from production (often even dedicated production of electricity from renewable sources) to subsequent storage, transport and distribution to various recipients.
The global energy transformation process also taking place in Poland requires very significant regional activation and cooperation of the local government, scientific and business communities. This is the purpose of the Association established UZNAM-WOLIŃSKA HYDROGEN VALLEY.
The Uznam-Wolińska Hydrogen Valley was created based on the area of influence of the company's project EcoEnergyH2 sp. z o. o. in Świnoujście, which, as part of a targeted investment - a business project, aims to create a regional area for the development of hydrogen energy. Its aim is to develop and implement a technological chain with a major, key, and also cross-border impact.
It will include the production of hydrogen in the process of electrolysis of water taken from the port canal (river mouth to the sea) using renewable "Baltic" electricity, development of the capacity to import and export liquid LH2 hydrogen, underground storage of hydrogen gas, as well as its on-land distribution (fueling stations). and by road and rail transport, also through the gas pipeline system, e.g. in the city by direct delivery via water pipeline to a modern municipal heat and power plant ultimately fired with hydrogen in the 100%.
The special location favors the development of hydrogen bunkering for ships and the technological area Zero Emission Marine, i.e. designing and building modern and innovative small aluminum ships with emission-free hydrogen drive based on green hydrogen and fuel cells, as well as participating in the production of aluminum structures for offshore wind energy - secondary aluminum structure for offshore.
Development areas
Elements of energy
low and zero emissions
Above-ground storage of liquefied hydrogen and its regasification
Emission-free hydrogen production
Above-ground technological hydrogen tanks
Underground hydrogen storage
Internal, land and sea distribution of hydrogen
Zero Emission Marine and Production of elements for offshore wind energy
Hydrogen delivery and maritime distribution
EccoEnergyH2 concession for the exploration of rock salt for underground hydrogen storage
Hydrogen distribution by road, rail and long-distance transmission
Location uniqueness
Port of Świnoujście
The uniqueness of the place (with a huge potential for cross-border impact) is shown by the combination in one city and the port of Świnoujście of the huge potential for the production of green hydrogen from bay water in the electrolysis process in connection with maritime transport (import and export of liquid LH2 hydrogen) and the possibility of underground hydrogen storage in caverns salt, also enabling its transport over distances limited only by the reach of the existing gas pipeline infrastructure system.
Hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels are expected to play a key role in enabling the decarbonization of shipping and maritime activities. The development of these solutions is important to facilitate further innovation in the implementation of hydrogen solutions in shipping, as well as to reduce the risk of future investments.
Scalable bunkering solutions will be best developed by demonstrating innovative systems that can deliver hydrogen to ships safely, quickly and at low cost. The technical development of these projects should be accompanied by work to understand the underlying physical phenomena, develop safety practices, meet existing and suggest new regulatory requirements where necessary, ensure appropriate classification of developed solutions, and facilitate their wide implementation.
To realize these ambitions, standardization of the developed engineering solutions is also a priority. Such as tanker, connections, nozzles, as well as refueling protocols.
Range of influence
Possibilities of using the scientific and research potential of Western Pomerania and adjacent cross-border areas to develop the hydrogen economy and build branches of the regional and cross-border hydrogen industry.
History of creation
Poland, as a European Union country, should participate in the construction of a new energy system and an economy based on low-emission energy sources to meet national, European and global climate goals. The role of hydrogen in the economy, and especially its potential in decarbonizing industry and transport, is constantly growing. Creating a modern ecosystem that will allow building the value chain of the hydrogen economy and integrating individual sectors of the economy requires the cooperation of numerous stakeholders.
Activities of EcoEnergyH2 Sp. z o. o. is the result of recognizing the need to engage in the process of climate-friendly energy transformation in the area of developing the European research program, especially on green hydrogen.
The transformation in the European Union towards industrial production and widespread use of clean hydrogen will take place regionally as part of the so-called "hydrogen valleys", i.e. limited areas successfully filling the entire technological chain for the production of emission-free green hydrogen, offering an appropriate final sales price for hydrogen, accepted by the market.
Taking into account the perspective of the entire "hydrogen transformation" process, we chose the city of Świnoujście as the location of the "hydrogen valley", considering that in this city we are able to most successfully achieve synergy of technological areas, from the raw material stage through production to the use of hydrogen, guaranteeing final success. implementing energy transition into everyday life of society.
This concept met with great interest and support from the city's local authorities, which became the basis for signing a letter of intent by Piotr Kosowicz, President of the Management Board of EcoEnergyH2, and the Commune of Świnoujście, represented by the Mayor of the city Janusz Żmurkiewicz (Letter of intent to create a regional UZNAM-WOLI HYDROGEN VALLEY).
This letter was an expression of support and at the same time strengthening the process of developing hydrogen technologies in the Uznam-Woliński region and the Świnoujście health resort.
The initiators and signatories of the Letter of Intent are: Janusz Żmurkiewicz – Mayor of Świnoujście and Piotr Kosowicz – President of the Management Board of EcoEnergyH2 Sp. z o. o. The letter was signed in the presence of Barbara Michalska – Deputy President and Kazimierz Frukacz, Proxy of Alumare Sp. z o. o
Signing the Letter of Intent is an expression of common understanding of the need to take action to achieve climate neutrality and build a local low-emission economy in the aspect of sustainable development.
The signing of the Letter created a unique opportunity to start the development of the region, which requires specific projects that respond to social needs in the pursuit of introducing zero-emission and low-emission technologies. These are activities for environmental protection, including the promotion of pro-ecological attitudes, especially among young people, entrepreneurs and local communities, in particular regarding the protection and improvement of the natural environment.
After 7 months from signing the Letter of Intent, The Uznam-Wolińska Dolina Wodorowa Association has been entered into the court register.
