On November 15, 2024, Piotr Kosowicz, as President of the Management Boards of EcoEnergyH2 and Uznamsko-Wolinska Dolina Wodowa, participated in the Polish-German hydrogen conference organized by the Stralsund University of Technology and the Polish-German Information and Advisory Network of the Euroregion POMERANIA in Schwedt Oder, where he delivered a lecture entitled: The potential for synergy of cross-border cooperation between enterprises in the area of energy transformation of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as part of Europe's energy security.
This conference was held as part of 31st REGWA Symposium on “Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Technologies” from 13 to 15 November 2024.

The event aimed to, among other things, provide mutual information on the development of the hydrogen economy on the Polish and German sides, present public administration plans, present solutions from entrepreneurs and scientists, and network players from the hydrogen industry.
It was an opportunity to share our reflections and provide a slightly different perspective on the challenges currently facing both Europe and the world.
The conference has become a very good place to review the current situation in the implementation of decarbonisation projects in the region, the possibilities of using their economic potential for the common good, and the synergies for the effective implementation of the energy transformation process, which is particularly important for the POMERANIA region, and its impact in the cross-border area.
The presented speeches provided keynotes illustrating the current situation and indicating directions for further action, e.g.:
- … existing contacts/relationships should develop into long-term cooperation…;
- … isolated projects fail…;
- … supra-regional consortiums should be created…;
- …hydrogen needs an integrated system…;
- …geographical – spatial concentration…;
- … creating a supply chain… and achieving economies of scale…;
The main problems for project development were identified as FINANCING and OBTAINING PERMISSIONS.
In conclusion to the submitted comments and reflections, taking into account the upcoming year 2025, it can be assumed that the energy transformation process in Europe, in order to effectively and energetically develop further and cover as large areas as possible, currently requires the development and adoption of a new business model.
So, will the establishment of the POMERANIA Cross-Border Hydrogen Valley, as a synergy of regions, not be a new dimension of the implementation of the energy transformation and a challenge for the coming years?
