Purpose of the association

  1. Supporting the development of the hydrogen economy and striving to build a regional and cross-border hydrogen industry, through:
    • hydrogen production in the electrolysis process as well as natural gas pyrolysis or biomass combustion using energy produced from renewable energy installations
    • above-ground and underground tankless hydrogen storage in salt caverns with the possibility of connecting to the main gas transmission network from the National Transmission System enabling direct injection of stored hydrogen into the system in order to transport hydrogen over any distance
    • use in energy, including heat, transport and infrastructure, and industry;
  2. Close cooperation to create a business and technological environment in order to build the Uznam-Wolińska Hydrogen Valley;
  3. Using the scientific and research potential, in particular of Western Pomerania and adjacent cross-border areas, in order to undertake, among others: innovative scientific, technological and industrial ventures and investment projects aimed at building common technological value chains of the hydrogen economy;
  4. Supporting business activities, e.g. by creating business analyses, identifying investment opportunities, creating and implementing technological solutions, connecting and actively supporting Association members in the implementation of business projects, representing the interests of all members or their individual groups as part of their hydrogen activities;
  5. Conducting scientific research, investment and implementation works aimed at the use of hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel in the energy industry and maritime and inland navigation through the use of fuel cells;
  6. Conducting research, investment and implementation works aimed at the use of hydrogen as an energy source in zero-emission and low-emission land transport;
  7. Usage includes: instruments and potential of the existing industrial infrastructure, optimal conditions for conducting business in areas leading to the construction of a hydrogen economy;
  8. Organizing and participating in dialogue between stakeholders (experts, representatives of public institutions, energy companies, operators and distributors, as well as the scientific community) interested in activities in the field of hydrogen economy, as well as industry integration;
  9. Exchange of information and experiences related to building a hydrogen economy both at the national and international level;
  10. Action to protect the environment, including the promotion of pro-ecological attitudes, especially among young people, entrepreneurs and local communities, in particular regarding the protection and improvement of the natural environment;
  11. Raising the professional qualifications of members and entities supporting the activities of the Association;
  12. Creation of educational programs aimed at educating future experts in hydrogen technologies and the hydrogen market.

Hydrogen Valley
and potential of the city of Świnoujście

The Uznam-Wolińska Hydrogen Valley area is a place where the unique potential of the city of Świnoujście is used in the energy transformation process in the area of development of hydrogen technologies on the principles of sustainable development for the benefit not only of the city of Świnoujście, but also the region..

This requires the implementation of specific projects that respond to social needs in terms of striving to introduce zero- and low-emission technologies, and therefore activities for environmental protection, including the promotion of pro-ecological attitudes, especially among young people, entrepreneurs and local communities, in particular regarding the protection and improvement of the environment. natural.

Świnoujście, as a city and seaport, can successfully guarantee energy security by developing the capacity to import hydrogen in liquid form - LH2, which will increase the security of hydrogen supplies to the city's thermal power plant and distribute hydrogen in the regional gas network. This involves LH2 sea transport as the most economical and flexible means of transporting larger quantities of hydrogen over longer distances.

Given the low bulk density of hydrogen, this process poses a serious challenge for transport and distribution. Currently, the transport of compressed hydrogen encounters limitations (mainly the delivery of small amounts of compressed hydrogen at low pressure), which limits its potential to become a common energy carrier. Furthermore, improvements are needed to efficiently transport hydrogen in large quantities and over large geographic areas increasing the scale of transport and distribution technologies. They aim to improve the efficiency of transporting compressed hydrogen to achieve optimal performance within physical constraints.

However, in the field of Zero Emission Marine, projects implemented so far in Europe have demonstrated the feasibility of zero-emission inland navigation powered by hydrogen. However, large-scale adoption of this solution requires a holistic approach across the entire value chain.

The aim of the projects implemented in the technological area of the Uznam-Wolińska Hydrogen Valley is to modernize existing diesel-powered ships with fuel cells and electric propulsion systems, which will contribute to the use of the most modern solutions, as well as integrate hydrogen fuel cell solutions, hydrogen storage and distribution (infrastructure, bunkering , pipelines on board and on land) based on a pan-European harmonized regulatory framework.

This will also result in the implementation of installation rules (implantation) based on current knowledge about the hazards at H2 and LH2 available and/or developed in previous projects implemented by international companies.

Taking into account the development of innovative environmentally friendly technologies, the Association will promote opportunities for the development of "green" industrial areas that guarantee the creation of new stable jobs, while contributing to the protection of the local climate. Thanks to these activities, in the long term the region has a chance to gain great independence in the field of low- and zero-emission energy.
